Birmingham, AL – As temperatures are expected to fall below freezing, the City of Birmingham, along with Jimmie Hale Mission, will open its warming station tonight, Jan. 12, through Thursday morning, Jan. 18. The first three nights will take place at Jimmie Hale Mission and then transition to a 24-hour warming station at the BJCC for the remaining three days.
Here is how the week will unfold:
- Friday, Jan. 12 through Sunday, Jan. 14: Each night, from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m., those needing warm shelter can come to the Jimmie Hale Mission, located at 3420 2nd Ave North. Food will be provided.
- Donations for snacks, bottled water, and blankets that would fit a twin-size bed or larger may be dropped off at the Jimmie Hale Mission between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Please do not bring any clothing.
- Monday, Jan. 15 through Thursday, Jan. 18 Beginning at 6 p.m. on Monday, there will be a 24-hour warming station at the BJCC East Ballroom, located at 1100 22nd St. North through Thursday, Jan. 18 at 7 a.m.
Transportation to the warming station will be provided Jan. 12-14 only with pick up from 6 p.m.-9 p.m. at Brother Bryan Park, 2100 Magnolia Ave. South; Faith Chapel Care Center, 921 2nd Ave. North; Linn Park, 20th St. North; and the Boutwell Auditorium, 1930 Reverend Abraham Woods Jr. Blvd.
